  • Created a car pooling system to allow drivers to connect with other staff who live within a short distance of their home.
  • Now recycle running shoes that are worn out by staff and the children living at the STVCC Children’s Home.
  • Addressed ways to go paperless including a new e-newsletter option.
  • Made flex time hours available to help reduce on drive time and emissions.
Added benefits for creating flex time, are reduced gas cost for staff and more flexible hours to help meet our customer’s needs.
  • Included an STVCC Go Green section in our internal newsletter to give tips to staff on ways to Go Green at work and at home.
  • Took part of the 2009 Earth Day tree planting sponsored by The Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association and Capital Area Landscape and Nurseryman’s Association.
As part of their goal to get 10,000 Michigan Citizens involved with Earth Day and Planting Michigan Green; plantmichigangreen.com they offered to donate shade trees, and 100% of the labor to plant them, for businesses who were interested.  STVCC accepted the offer and a new shade tree was planted on the STVCC Children’s Home playground.  The Children of STVCC participated and read poems they had written for the occasion.

We are always looking for more ways to Go Green.  If you have ideas for going green please contact Julie Reynolds, STVCC Community Relations & Marketing director at (517) 323-4734 ext. 1202.
